Saw that all my favorite mugs were dirty.
Grabbed that one Coca-Cola mug that did not get de-hoarded.
Saw it was chipped.
And what did I do?
I put it right back in the cabinet and grabbed another mug.
Not only did I put it back in the cabinet, I didn't give it a second thought.
It wasn't until I was putting away dishes later and creatively placing the mugs in the cabinet so they would all fit Tetris style, it hit me.
Why did I put a broken mug back in the cabinet? A broken mug that, my own actions prove, will not be used. A mug that would only have been used as a last resort even if it hadn't been chipped!
Immediately my defenses started to rise. I already de-hoarded all my Coca-Cola mugs except this one. This is the one that I allowed myself to keep. I am NOT getting rid of my last Coca-Cola mug.
Why?
What is with the immediate possessive response? I don't even know. I really have absolutely no reason. Just some instinctual hoarding reaction. It was in my keep pile so it must remain. FOREVER!!! Where is this unwritten rule that I must own at least one Coca-Cola mug? Even if it happens to be broken. What purpose does that serve?
So, I made the obvious decision to toss it.
And then I made the obvious decision to blog about it.
But, I thought to myself, my 31 Days of De-Hoarding series is over.
I figured this would make an odd little footnote to the series.
You can probably see where I am going with this.
Because de-hoarding isn't really a 31 day and then done process. Especially not for someone like me.
Cue the "Neverending Story" music.
Hang on gotta Spotify that now...
Neverending stooooorrry. Ahhhaaaa ahhh ahhhaaa ahhh ahhhaaa ahhh.
Right. A process.
Maybe, to encourage myself to continue the process, I should continue to blog about it.
Possibly even once a week?
And if I am going to de-hoard once a week, why not ask you to join me???
Which is where I got super excited and posted this to Facebook.
I just had the greatest idea and I am going to blog about it tomorrow. Be on the edge of your seat in anticipation. #notreally #igetexcitedtooeasily #abusinghashtagsismynewthingAnd now my two Facebook followers are finding themselves awfully disappointed with my over hyped big reveal.
Ta dah!
How does this sound? A Tuesday linkup. I am going to make it super easy on myself and you.
The goal will be to get something out of your house. Doesn't matter what it is. Just anything that needs to go. As many or as few items as you want. Because even a little bit is something. De-hoarded, de-cluttered, purged, whatever you want to call it. As long as it's out of your house.
How about we call it??
Take It Out Tuesday
I'd like to take credit for that name but really I went to bed all in crisis mode that I couldn't come up with a good name for my new linkup. I whined to my husband about it right before drifting off to sleep. Then I slept like a baby all night while he tossed and turned trying to think up a solution to my problem. This morning I woke rested and he woke bleary eyed, having solved my, what to name my link up, issue. Seriously guys. He is the best!
I will start today with my precious broken Coca-Cola mug.
De-hoarded!
Next week I will hopefully have my act together and have an actual linky and hopefully some kind of sweet graphic to go along with it so be on the lookout this week for something you don't need. Next week be ready to join in!!!
