SQT - Sleepy and Stuff

How bout a couple of quick, quick takes?

1.  Didn't get much sleep last night.  The Peanut came in around 1 am and slept with us for the rest of the night.  He was mumbling something about "finishing the show" and trembling.  I couldn't tell if he was scared, cold, had to pee or was just really tired.  So I sent him to the bathroom thinking he would go back to his own bed after that.  No such luck.  He came back and decided to cuddle up right next to me.  On my pillow.  With my blanket.  Did I mention he has taken up a snoring habit?  My position on co-sleeping hasn't changed.  I still can't sleep with someone touching me.  Or kicking me all night long.  Needless to say I did not sleep much at all for the rest of the night.  I did ask him several times during the night if he wanted to go back to his own bed.  Especially after I finally dozed off for a few seconds and was woken by him saying "Mom!?  Was that poop??"  Um... What?  "Never mind."  Really?  I am supposed to go back to sleep after that??  He was content enough to remain.  And then this morning he woke up and asked how he got into our bed.

2.  After all the work I did de-hoarding the house so it would be easier to clean and prepare to host Thanksgiving, we have decided not to host Thanksgiving.  I thought it would be nice to take a little vacation for once and mainly, I don't feel like cleaning.

The bad news is that I will still have to clean for Christmas.  I really should get started on that now.  Procrastinator.

SQT - Sleepy and Stuff
Totally linking this up with Theme Thursday "prepare" if Cari ever posts it. Ahem. ;)

3.  My husband turns 40 on Tuesday.  Being a loving, considerate wife, I planned on having a big party for him.  I am also a terrible procrastinator and an even worse planner.  Needless to say those plans never came to anything and it seems we will be doing exactly nothing for him.  Because I am the worst wife ever.  So, if anyone has any suggestions on how to do something super special for him on a $0 budget and four days of planning, I'm listening!

4.  I am on tsu now.  I just can't seem to help myself.  I have to join every social networking site out there.  It's invite only but you can click on my invite link if you want to join or you can follow me if you are already a member.  It seems to be catching on.  Mainly because you can make money using it.  Still figuring it all out myself.

5.  I swear the Peanut was just singing the Mr. Ed theme song.  He says he was just randomly singing "of course of course" but it sounded just like Mr. Ed.  I, of course, had to You Tube "Mr. Ed Theme song" and the Peanut insists that it's nothing like what he was singing.  Totally was.

Then I got sucked into the You Tube vortex and ended up here.

Conclusion.  I watched way too much TV in the 80s and 90s.  The only show on that list I didn't watch was #15.

6.  After watching this yesterday, my kids can't stop singing "I've got a butt."  Totally should not have let them watch it!

"Music got weird."

7.  As a continuation of my 31 Days of De-hoarding series and self motivation to continue the de-hoarding process, I started a new link-up.  Take It Out Tuesday.  Every Tuesday I will be de-hoarding something and inviting you to join along.  I will also be keeping the link open all week so bascially you can de-hoard something any day and join in.  Also, if you aren't a blogger but still want to join, feel free to just take a picture and tweet or Instagram or Facebook it with the hashtag. #takeitouttues  Because I like things nice and easy.  You're welcome!

Let It Go Monday

A word of warning.

If you tell a grandparent that your daughter really likes Frozen and that she would like an Anna doll for her birthday...

Expect the grandparent to walk in to the store, find Frozentopia and buy ALL THE THINGS!

One of which will be a mini "flip open sofa."

(We won't even mention the musical snow globe wand that plays Let It Go.)

The elated Princess will of course insist on sleeping in her new sofa, snuggled under her new Frozen blanket, instead of in her perfectly functional bed.

After two nights of "restful" slumber on the floor, she will awaken early Monday morning, tired and grouchy.

Then she just might catch you tearing pages out of her math book to put into her binder and realize the terrible truth.

That you have only been tearing out every other practice page.

Skipping pages!!

And this will be the result.

Worst mother ever.  Depriving her of the joy of extra math practice pages.

I Guess I'll Be Giving Up My Computer for Lent

The good news is that I made it to round two of the Messiest House on the Internet Contest over at MyLifeandKids so if you get a chance head over and vote for my "Lovely Living Room."

This is where I would include the fancy link and such but when I tried to restart my computer, (it was frozen) this happened.

This is where I would post the picture I took on my phone of the error I got but I can't figure out how to post pictures from my phone.

I am totally blogging from my phone.

I know there's an app for that but not for Windows phone.  Sigh.

Obviously, I freaked out and sent a panic text to my (mostest awesomest on the planet, don't know what I would do without him) brother who talked me down from the ledge and told me how to reboot my computer from the Windows disc.

It is currently "attempting repairs."  I'll keep you posted...

Starve a Cold, Feed a Toe

The Princess.
She seems to be coming down with some sort of cold.  The past couple of mornings I have heard that slight catch of a cough when she first woke up.

This morning she woke up with the nose stuffies.  They have made her rather mis-er-ble today.

She periodically exclaims, "I don' feel so good."  Or, "I'm tired but I don't wanna go to sweep."

Most of her day has been spent snuggled up on the couch under a blanket.
She has needed lots of Mama snuggles today.

The Attack of the Tiny Snowmen

Imagine my shock this morning as I opened the door to discover this.
Two tiny menacing snowmen had mysteriously materialized on my front porch overnight.
Terrifying!

Yet somehow eerily familiar.

I had seen their kind before.
It was many years ago.  But I had not forgotten.  I will never forget.

WIWS: Book Club Hosting Day

Otherwise known as the, "Last minute finishing of housecleaning all while trying to get Peanut ready and to his first day back to CCD since Christmas break and get everyone else ready, oh and snap a few pics in the process."

He was late to class.

I forgot to bring his homework, which he was in the process of finishing with Dada, while I was taking a picture of what I wore.

What did I wear?
Pajama clad Photobomber
And that picture is as good as it gets.  BTW, as you can see, we have decided to store the shop vac in the bathroom on top of the hole.  Easy access and it "hides the hole" or at least that is what we are telling ourselves.

The Breakdown

I realize I have not been the best at keeping up with the blog lately (or really ever.)  I blame my slow computer.  Five days now it has been trying to update Facebook (which is why all my Facebook followers have been missing out on all my witty banter and such) and it took almost two weeks to get this page open to write a new blog post then another two days to add links and a picture.  Yes, it's a bit slow at times.  It has also begun to make a strange noise from time to time...

So, last time I told you about my doctor's appointment of awesomeness.  It was so incredibly awesome that I felt a great weight lifted.

Which is why you might have been very surprised to see me the following morning, driving back home after dropping my husband off for work, having a bit of a mental breakdown.

Let's back up a couple of days.  The day before my amazing doctor's appointment of all amazing amazingness, two things happened.

First I was doing dishes.  (I know, I should really learn my lesson!)  And I made a huge watery mess on the floor.  My husband stepped in the puddle and commented on it.  I waved him off and told him I always made a mess doing dishes and it's just water so it will dry.  He brought in a towel and dried it up.  Then I stepped in the puddle that was leaking out of the towel.

Wait, what?

Yes, a giant puddle over and above the water that had now saturated a full size bath towel.  There is no way I made that much of a mess!  We pulled out the contents of under the sink cabinet.  They are currently still scattered across my kitchen counters and floor.  After some investigation we discovered that the garbage disposal is leaking.  Well you probably know by now how much we enjoy plumbing problems around here.  So we decided simply not to use that side of the sink.

During all this craziness the Princess came running in crying.  She was holding her mouth.  Correction, she was holding her tooth.

No one saw her injure herself and the best she can tell me is that it was the rocking chair.  What do you want to bet she wasn't just sitting properly in it?

Ya'll know how I love a good mouth injury!  (Yes, I spell it ya"ll and spell checker has no problem with it so it must be correct.)  So, I calmed her down and hubby washed her mouth out and got the bleeding to stop.  Yes, there is always blood isn't there?  We checked her tooth to see if the gum looked swollen or red and it looked ok.  But I was rather worried about it.  She has caps on her teeth (chalk teeth) and so we have to watch carefully because if she injures the tooth we might not be able to tell under the cap.  Yup, queen of mouth injuries and we have to take her into the dentist any time she injures a tooth.  This is amazingly only the second time in the year since she got the caps put on.  The first time was one week after she had the caps put on.

So, all that craziness happened and then the next day we pretty much put it all out of our minds because we had the doctor's appointment and at first we were all nervous and then we were all relieved and it was all emotional and stuff so I honestly didn't think about any of the other stuff all that day.

Then that night I remembered her tooth and took a look at it to see if there was any redness or swelling.  I didn't see any redness and maybe a tiny bit of swelling but it was hard to tell.  Still, it didn't look quite right...

It took me a minute and suddenly I realized one tooth looked lower than the other.  Now this might not be that big a deal except that I knew for a fact that the caps had been perfectly even.  I reached out and touched her tooth.

7 Quick Takes Friday: Superman, Lemons & Baby Spotting

--- 1 ---

This weekend is the 34th Annual Superman Celebration in Metropolis Illinois.  In honor of this event the kids and are are all wearing Superman shirts today.  It's the next best thing to actually being there.  At least that's what I tell them...
Super Cowgirl

Red K Superboy

This is what my lucky hubby gets to come home to everyday!

--- 2 ---

Whenever an image of a baby pops up anywhere in the house, a state of national emergency is declared.  Two children begin screaming and running around the house frantically.  I am located and strongly urged to "COME SEE THE CUTE BABY!"  It doesn't matter where I am or what I am doing, bathroom included, I must drop everything and run to see the cute baby or order (or at least a lack of screeching) will never be restored in this house.  "Will our baby be that cute?"  "I sure hope so!"

 --- 3 ---

The cute baby spotting phenomena is also extended to my computer.  As it so happens, more than a few of the blogs I read have lately been showing off adorable pictures of brand new babies.  Therefore, anytime I am on the computer, two children are in my lap exclaiming "awe!"  "Scroll down, scroll up, awe!"  I should actually count three children in my lap because the one in my tummy has been growing and is taking up a bit of lap space him/herself.  As much as I love the cuddles, I also treasure my space.  Especially when attempting to type.

 --- 4 ---

Unfortunately, the cute baby spotting has also been occurring frequently in Mass.  If you are the mom of a little baby and happen to be in Mass one Sunday, you might find yourself being pointed at across the church by a Peanut.  This Peanut will be frantically climbing across the pew, over his dad, around his sister, all while pointing obviously, to reach his mother and exclaim, "Do you see that cute baby?!  Will our baby be that cute?"

 --- 5 ---

We had a very nutritional breakfast this morning.  The Peanut ate a lemon and the Princess had a jelly sandwich.  It was that kind of morning.
The boy loves lemons.

He ate the whole thing and went back for more.

 --- 6 ---

You thought I was going to actually stick with a theme there didn't you?  Well, except for the Superman part.  But that was of vital importance.  Much like baby spotting.

Guess Who's Back?

This morning the kids were at the table coloring and I was admiring their artistry.
Suddenly the Peanut exclaimed, "Oh no, mom look!"

He pointed out the window at the pool.

Guess who's back, back again
Shady's back, tell a friend
Guess who's back, guess who's back
Guess who's back.  Guess who's back?

Mother's Day Memories

Yesterday morning I woke up at 7:30am to the frantic cries of the Princess.  ...have to go potty!!!  I struggled to drag myself out of bed.  My husband rolled over and muttered something about waking him up after she was done.

Mother's Day had begun.

We got to the bathroom and my daughter kept walking past it.  "I thought you had to go potty."  I yawned.  "No, my brother has to go potty."

We went into the bedroom and found him wiggling in the bed, still half asleep.  I roused him and he staggered out of bed and made his way to the bathroom.

"Thank you for telling me he had to go potty.  You can go back to bed now."

"But it's good mornin time.  The sun is awake.  I hungwy.  I want bweakfast."

It was worth a try.

We made our way into the kitchen, Zombie Mom style, and I put some waffles in the toaster.

At this point the baby was apparently squeezing my bladder with a vice so I went to check on the Peanut.  As it turns out, he had long finished and was checking out his handsome self in the mirror.

Our conversation awoke my husband who told me to go back to bed and he would take over.

A couple of hours later my husband woke me up to tell me he had gotten breakfast.  "Come eat before it gets cold."

Refreshed after my nice sleep in, I made my way into the living room.

As I rounded the corner, I was greeted with one of the sweetest sights I have ever seen.

What Happened to Thursday?

You might be wondering, as I was, what happened to Thursday.  I have a few theories.

It is quite possible that it moved itself to the beginning of the next week.  Maybe it was just me not wanting to miss yet another Friday but all that week I was convinced every next day was Friday.  Wednesday especially, I was sure "tomorrow" was Friday.  Maybe that week just seemed longer, or maybe, just maybe, it really was longer.

I have another theory though.

Awhile back, possibly even a year ago, I had another trash taking out incident.  On this particular occasion I did not forget to take out the trash.  I remembered.  As I recall, I was quite proud of myself in fact.
Do you start to get the impression that I forget often?

That morning I woke up early, gathered up all the trash, and took it out to the curb.  As I walked back in the door something started nagging at me.  Something just hadn't looked right.

Possibly it was because I usually don't get the trash out that early and was unused to seeing the street light still on in the dim foggy early morning.  But something else just didn't seem right.  It seemed like something was missing.

I puzzled over the mystery throughout the day.

Perhaps a neighbor had made some kind of change to their house.  Painted?  Cut down a tree?  What was it?

I couldn't quite put my finger on what my subconscious was trying to tell me.

Suddenly it hit me.

Losing My Cool

I lost it today.

The Peanut was working on his school work.

The same school work he does every day.

But today.

Today.

He suddenly forgot how to write his letters.

All of them.

He just started making random shapes slightly resembling letters.
The x's are his.
Normally, this would be my cue to say, "let's take a break."  Because we both needed one.

Instead, I pushed on.

Because he was so close to finishing the book.

Just a few more pages and we could finish today!

So, we continued.

I continued to instruct.  "Stop at the dotted line and go down."  He went up.

And I snapped.

Brrrr!

It got cold this morning.  Like, stay in bed, huddled under the comforter, with only your ice cube nose sticking out for air, cold.

Nobody explained this concept to my kids.

They did not want to stay in bed huddled under the comforter.  They wanted breakfast.  Breakfast!  Can you imagine the nerve.  It's kind of hard to make breakfast while huddled under the comforter in bed.  Believe me.  I tried!

So, I braved the cold.

Now, I have to admit, the cold is a welcome change after a long hot summer.  Long and HOT.

Our electric bill will finally drop to, like, a tenth the price.  Which is happening in the nick of time or possibly slightly after the nick.

Needless to say it is so nice to be cold.  Really.  Not going to complain...

Homeschooling: Day One

As you all know, (because you all religiously read my blog whenever I randomly decide to post something) I have been working diligently for the past couple of weeks days on and off yesterday (evening) to clean and organize our "homeschool room" so that we could officially start our first day of school today.
Moved the dresser out.  As you can see it made a HUGE difference...
Moved out and collapsed all the empty boxes.
As you can see THAT made a huge difference.  See?  FLOOR!!

Finally organizedish.  No, don't look over at the other side of the room!
Today we woke up bright and early at 9ish am.  I know.  It's a miracle.  My kids actually slept in on the first day of school.  One of the perks of homeschooling.  I can consider it a good thing to sleep in on the first day of school!  So, after a nutritional well rounded breakfast of toast and cold hotdogs  (What? That's what they asked for!  It is too nutritional.  I put cream cheese on the toast so that's three whole food groups right there!) around 9:30ish am, we began.

Zombie Mom

Learning Resources Breakfast Foods, Set of 16 When those first rays of sunshine come wafting through my window I awake.  I stretch and smile.  The glorious morning awaits.  I spring up out of bed and skip off to the kitchen to concoct a healthy, nutritious, homemade breakfast for my growing children.

Singing as I work I hear the sweet voice of my daughter breaking into my revelry.

"Mama!  Mama!"
